Lewa Wildlife Conservancy

Lewa Wildlife Conservancy occupies about 65,000 acres of untouched African wilderness. The conservancy has dramatic views of snow-capped Mt Kenya to the south, and the arid lands of Tassia and Il Ngwesi to the north. Lewa displays a variety of wild habitats from highland forests, wide open grasslands, melt-water mountain springs and acacia woodland that supports over 450 recorded bird species. Lewa conservancy is well-known for its successful rhino and Grevy zebra breeding, two critically endangered species making it home to 10% of Kenya’s rhino, and 20% of the world’s Grevy zebra population. The conservancy does widespread outreach work into the surrounding communities with its Community Development Program including healthcare, education, micro-finance, and water projects.

The conservancy is also home to the Ngare Ndare Forest that is part of the wildlife corridor that links Lewa to other parks and conservancies in the North. Lewa Conservancy guests have unconstrained access to an incredibly stunning landscape that supports a diversity of animals including antelope, giraffes, elephants, buffalos and other herbivores that upkeeps striking cheetahs, stealthy leopards, mighty lions, brutal wild dogs and other predators. Both the ‘big five’ and ‘special five’ are found here. High end lodges are found in the conservancy where guests can unwind and freshen up after a tiresome day in the wild. It is accessible by air through scheduled flights departing Nairobi from Wilson Airport.
