On a clear day, enjoy stunning views of Mount Kilimanjaro rising in the distance—a truly unforgettable sight.
Arrive at your lodge, nestled deep in the wild, with time to unwind and take in the peaceful surroundings before heading out on your first game drive.

This historic lodge—one of Kenya’s first in a national park—blends rustic elegance with modern comfort, set against a backdrop of volcanic landscapes and rich wildlife.
Overlooking a busy waterhole often visited by elephants, buffalo, and other plains game, the lodge features 56 well-appointed rooms and suites, including the expansive Kilaguni Suite.
Guests can enjoy bush breakfasts, sundowner cocktails at Lion Rock, and locally inspired meals in the dining room with sweeping views of the waterhole. Leisure options include a swimming pool, stone-built bar, and optional wellness treatments.

DAY 03

kilaguni serena lodge

Begin your day with an early morning game drive in the park, taking advantage of the cooler hours when wildlife is most active. Return to the lodge for breakfast, then set out for a morning of scenic game viewing, including a visit to the Mzima Springs.
Mzima Springs is a lush oasis fed by over 250 million liters of crystal-clear water daily from the Chyulu Hills. The springs are home to hippos, crocodiles, and a rich variety of birdlife. Enjoy walking trails, picnic spots, and a submerged viewing chamber offering a rare underwater perspective of hippos and fish.
Continue to the Shetani Lava Flow, a dramatic landscape of ancient black rock formed by volcanic eruptions just 200 years ago. Local legend refers to this formation as the “Devil’s Lava Flow,” named after the Swahili word Shetani, meaning “devil”, due to the fearsome force with which it erupted.
Return to the lodge for lunch and leisure time, before heading out on an afternoon game drive. Your excursion includes a visit to the Ngulia Rhino Sanctuary, a 70-square-kilometre protected area dedicated to the conservation of black rhinos—a species that faced near extinction due to heavy poaching in the 1960s. Today, the sanctuary is home to a recovering population under close protection.
During your drive, you’ll also search for elephants, giraffes, buffalo, antelope, lions, and other iconic African wildlife as the day cools and animals become more active.

DAY 04

amboseli serena lodge

After an early breakfast, depart Tsavo West and begin your journey to the stunning Amboseli National Park, located at the foot of Mount Kilimanjaro near the Kenya–Tanzania border. The drive takes approximately 4–5 hours, passing through rural landscapes, traditional Maasai homesteads, and open savannahs—offering glimpses of Kenya’s diverse beauty along the way.

Amboseli is particularly famous for its unparalleled elephant encounters. Vast herds—sometimes over fifty strong—roam freely across the plains, offering visitors rare close-up views that are a dream for wildlife enthusiasts and photographers alike.
Beyond its wildlife, Amboseli captivates with its authentic Maasai culture and the stunning backdrop of Mount Kilimanjaro. Game Viewing Experience
Enjoy early morning and late afternoon game drives, a landscape of striking contrasts. Watch as herds of elephants cool off in the swamp waters, or spot the towering Maasai giraffe peeking through the treetops. The park’s birdlife is equally impressive, with over 420 recorded species, including 47 raptors.

A unique feature of Amboseli is its dry lake bed, which shimmers with mirages under the midday sun. In stark contrast, lush emerald-green swamps—fed by underground rivers from the melting snows of Mount Kilimanjaro—offer a lifeline to countless animals. These permanent water sources attract large concentrations of elephants, hippos, buffalo, zebras, and other plains game.

As the day ends, head to Observation Hill, a prehistoric site offering panoramic views. Here, the setting sun casts a golden glow over Kilimanjaro, creating one of the most iconic safari scenes in Africa.

Bird enthusiasts will be delighted by the variety of species found in the park’s wetlands, including the Madagascar Squacco Heron, Black-winged Lapwing, Taveta Golden Weaver, Taita Falcon, and the Southern Banded Harrier Eagle. Whether you’re a seasoned birder or a first-time visitor, Amboseli promises rich wildlife encounters in a truly dramatic setting.
