We fly south this morning over the Athi Plains to the natural wonderland of Amboseli National Park.

Amboseli National Park
Located in southern Kenya, Amboseli National Park is one of the country’s most celebrated conservation areas, renowned for its breathtaking landscapes and rich biodiversity. The park is home to an impressive array of wildlife, including four of the Big Five, alongside graceful zebras and a remarkable variety of birdlife thriving in its swamps and wetlands.

Amboseli is particularly famous for its unparalleled elephant encounters. Vast herds—sometimes over fifty strong—roam freely across the plains, offering visitors rare close-up views that are a dream for wildlife enthusiasts and photographers alike.
Beyond its wildlife, Amboseli captivates with its authentic Maasai culture and the stunning backdrop of Mount Kilimanjaro. It offers a truly unforgettable safari experience, where the beauty of nature and culture converge—making it a must-visit for those seeking the true magic of the Kenyan wilderness.
Elerai Camp – Amboseli

Nestled in a private conservancy on the foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro, Elerai Camp offers one of the most scenic and exclusive safari experiences in Amboseli. The camp boasts stunning views of Africa’s highest peak and is ideally positioned away from the busier park areas.

Guests are accommodated in spacious luxury tents that blend comfort with an authentic bush experience. The camp is known for its scrumptious cuisine, exceptional hospitality, and commitment to personalized service. Whether enjoying a sundowner with Kilimanjaro as your backdrop or watching elephants roam freely across the plains, Elerai delivers the very best of safari living.

Game Viewing Experience
Enjoy early morning and late afternoon game drives, a landscape of striking contrasts. Watch as herds of elephants cool off in the swamp waters, or spot the towering Maasai giraffe peeking through the treetops. The park’s birdlife is equally impressive, with over 420 recorded species, including 47 raptors.

A unique feature of Amboseli is its dry lake bed, which shimmers with mirages under the midday sun. In stark contrast, lush emerald-green swamps—fed by underground rivers from the melting snows of Mount Kilimanjaro—offer a lifeline to countless animals. These permanent water sources attract large concentrations of elephants, hippos, buffalo, zebras, and other plains game.

As the day ends, head to Observation Hill, a prehistoric site offering panoramic views. Here, the setting sun casts a golden glow over Kilimanjaro, creating one of the most iconic safari scenes in Africa.

Bird enthusiasts will be delighted by the variety of species found in the park’s wetlands, including the Madagascar Squacco Heron, Black-winged Lapwing, Taveta Golden Weaver, Taita Falcon, and the Southern Banded Harrier Eagle. Whether you’re a seasoned birder or a first-time visitor, Amboseli promises rich wildlife encounters in a truly dramatic setting.

DAY 04

main governors camp

This morning, we board a scenic flight to the legendary homelands of the Maasai Mara Game Reserve, one of Africa’s most celebrated wildlife destinations.
Upon arrival, we embark on our first game viewing drive across the sweeping plains of this world-renowned reserve. The Maasai Mara is a breathtaking landscape of open savannahs, meandering rivers, seasonal marshes, and patches of riverine forest—all teeming with life.
Covering 650 square kilometers, the reserve boasts one of the highest densities of wildlife anywhere in Africa. During the Great Migration season, up to a million wildebeest and large herds of zebra make their dramatic entrance from the neighboring Serengeti in Tanzania, offering an unforgettable wildlife spectacle.
The Maasai Mara is home to all of Africa’s iconic “Big Five” — lion, leopard, elephant, rhino, and buffalo — as well as a rich array of other species such as cheetah, jackal, eland, baboon, ostrich, and the elusive bat-eared fox. The Mara River and its tributaries are alive with crocodiles and pods of hippos, adding to the drama of the landscape.
With its remarkable biodiversity and ever-changing scenery, the Maasai Mara offers unparalleled opportunities for wildlife viewing and photography. Expect an awe-inspiring introduction to this wild and vibrant ecosystem.
Governors’ Camp – A Timeless Safari Icon
Established in 1972, Governors’ Camp holds the distinction of being Africa’s very first permanent luxury tented camp, still set in its original and iconic location. Nestled within a riverine forest along the winding banks of the Mara River, it offers what many consider the finest wildlife viewing position in the Masai Mara National Reserve.
Perfect for couples, families, and friends alike, the camp provides an authentic safari experience right at the heart of the action.
The entire camp is set under canvas, seamlessly blending classic safari charm with modern comfort. Traditional tents face the Mara River, while spacious family tents open out to sweeping views of the plains. Each tent features an en-suite bathroom and a private verandah, creating a peaceful retreat after a day on safari.
Guests can unwind in the cozy bar tent with a deck overlooking the river or dine in the elegant mess tent while enjoying panoramic views across the savannah. For added relaxation, the on-site spa tent offers a selection of massages and treatments using 100% natural products from The Wild Herb Company.
Whether you’re seeking adventure or tranquility, Governors’ Camp delivers an unforgettable safari steeped in heritage and surrounded by nature.
