Meru National Park is located in Central Kenya about 350 km northeast of Nairobi and sits to the northeast of Mount Kenya.  The park serves visitors with an array of nature encounters including jungle, grasslands, swamps, rivers, and landscape with an abundance of termite created mini hills. The national park receives a substantial amount of rainfall allowing for the growth of tall grasses and the development of rich swamps making it a wildlife haven.  Wildlife is diverse and plentiful with common species such as the elephant, giraffe, black rhino, white rhino, kudu, gazelle, hartebeest, reedbuck, zebra, and hippo.  Predator species include lion, leopard, cheetah, jackal, African wild cat, and the spotted hyena.

Meru National Park Safari Adventures

The park is also a bird watcher’s haven with over 430 bird species recorded in the park such as superb sterling, pygmie falcon, crested eagle, martial eagle, Kori bastard and many others. The park is also the location where the famous George and Joy Adamson raised the lioness named Elsa and shared the story via the book and movie both named “Born Free.” It also has a rhino sanctuary with up to 60 rhinoceros protected in the sanctuary. The camp is also home to Elsa’s Kopje Lodge where guests can relax and unwind after a tiresome day on safari. It is accessible by air through daily scheduled flights departing Nairobi from Wilson Airport.
